Together, we'll explore the burial history and practices of seven distinct cultures within New York City: Protestants, especially early Dutch and British colonists; Catholics; Muslims; Jews; the Lenape; African-Americans; and Chinese-Americans. We will visit four cemeteries, a "funeral row," and one of the greatest American archaeological burial finds of modern times. We'll decode some colonial-era grave art, learn about the many burial grounds of New York that we now play in, and much more.
